Languages
Your site, booking and e-mails in your guests' languages
Ruumio shows your studio's website, booking pages, member account and e-mails in the languages you choose, so a visitor from abroad can book and pay without guessing. Each language has its own address, you translate your own texts in the admin, and every member gets their e-mails in the language they use.
One default language, more when you need them
Your studio has a default language: the one visitors see first, the one your e-mails use when nothing else is known, and the language of your invoices. In the settings you add more site and booking languages. How many you can add depends on your plan.
The choice covers the official languages of the European Union, Norwegian and Icelandic. The admin itself is in Estonian or English.
Each language on its own address
Every language besides the default lives under its own prefix, for example /fi/ or /en/: the home page, your pages, the booking calendar, sign-up and login, and the member account. A visitor who opens a Finnish link sees Finnish, whatever their browser or a previous visit says, and links on the page keep the language.
Visitors switch with the language links on every page. Search engines get each page once per language: the page's own address as canonical, links to the same page in the other languages, and every language in the sitemap.
- Own address per language (/fi/…, /de/…)
- Language links on every visitor page
- Language alternates and sitemap entries for search engines
You translate your own content
Ruumio's own words (buttons, the booking steps, e-mail texts, error messages) are translated for you. Your words are yours: room names and descriptions, equipment, locations, extras, booking questions and their options, monthly plans, hour packs and projects are translated on one translations page, and the home page, About, Contact and your own pages in each page's editor.
The admin shows how many fields are still untranslated in each language. A field you leave empty shows the visitor your original text, so you can start with the rooms and add the rest later. Ruumio does not machine-translate your texts.
Bookings and e-mails in the member's language
A booking remembers the language it was made in. The member's confirmation, reminder and cancellation e-mails come in their language, with your room names translated, and links in the e-mails lead back to pages in the same language. Answers to choice questions are checked against the options in the language the booker used.
The card payment page opens in the visitor's language when Stripe offers it. Invoices stay in your studio's default language.
The booking widget in a language
If you put the booking widget on another website, you choose its language in the embed code. One site can carry the widget in one language on its English page and in another on its Finnish page.
Which translations are reviewed
Estonian and English are written and reviewed by people. The other languages are machine translations of Ruumio's interface that a native speaker hasn't reviewed yet; they are marked beta in your settings, so you can decide whether to offer them. Your own texts are only ever what you write.
Questions
Do I have to translate everything before I add a language?
No. Untranslated fields show your original text, and the translations page shows what is still missing in each language.
Will my existing links still work after I add a language?
Yes. The default language keeps its addresses without a prefix; the new language gets its own addresses next to them.
Which language do members get their e-mails in?
The language they use on your site: the one of their account, or the one they booked in. If neither is known, your studio's default language.
What happens to my languages if I move to a smaller plan?
Your choice is kept, but only as many languages as the plan allows are shown to visitors.
